Srinagar, Feb 08 (KNO): The School Education Department (SED) Kashmir has successfully distributed 60% of free textbooks to government schools across the region. Officials have assured that all schools will receive 100% of the books before reopening after winter break.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK), G.N. Itoo, also stated that the department is reviewing infrastructure and academic challenges highlighted in the ASER-2025 survey.
Textbook Distribution & Winter Tutorials
Addressing reporters, Itoo explained that the shift back to the November-December academic session up to Class 9 was done in a short timeframe, leaving JKBOSE with little preparation time. Despite this, 60% of the textbooks have already been delivered, and the distribution process is still ongoing.
To support students during the winter break, 200 winter tutorial centers have been set up, catering to 33,000 students. Many of them are using old textbooks from school book banks.
Efforts to Address Education Gaps
DSEK has formed special teams to analyze the issues raised in the ASER-2025 survey, and a high-level administrative meeting has already taken place.
Itoo also revealed that a detailed roadmap is being prepared to overcome these challenges and will soon be submitted to the government. He noted that in some areas, Kashmir’s education system has performed better than the national average.
