New Expressway to Boost Trade and Connectivity

A 719 km long Greenfield Expressway is set to be built between Raxaul in Bihar and Haldia in West Bengal at an estimated cost of ₹60,000 crore. This major infrastructure project will enhance trade and improve travel between Bihar, West Bengal, and Nepal. Expected to be completed by 2028, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Deoghar, Dumka, Patna, Kolkata, and Nepal.

Smoother Travel & Better Connectivity

This six-lane expressway, to be constructed by NHAI, will pass through Deoghar, Dumka, and Jamtara districts of Jharkhand. Once completed, it will make travel from Deoghar and Dumka to Nepal, Kolkata, Patna, and other key cities much easier. The project’s Detailed Project Report (DPR) is ready, and NHAI has already submitted a proposal for approval. Once approved, the land acquisition process will begin, followed by construction.

Boost to Trade, Tourism & Employment

Apart from making travel more convenient, this expressway is expected to boost trade and tourism, providing a major push to the local economy. The road’s alignment has been slightly changed—it was initially planned to go through Banka and Jamui, but now it will pass through Saraiyahat, Nonihat, and Dumka city. The project will also help create new job opportunities and promote industrial development.

New Ganga Bridge for Faster Travel

As part of this project, a new bridge is proposed over the Ganga, connecting Begusarai and Suryagarha. This will bring down travel time from Deoghar to Patna and Kolkata to just three hours. The expressway is expected to reduce congestion, improve logistics, and attract new businesses to the region.

Districts That Will Benefit

The expressway will start from Raxaul in Bihar and pass through:

  • Bihar: East Champaran, Sheohar, Samastipur, Begusarai, Suryagarha, Jamui, Mallepur, Banka, Katoria
  • Jharkhand: Dumka, Saraiyahat, Nonihat, Mohanpur, Ghoramara, Sonaraithadhi, Palojori (Deoghar), Kundhit (Jamtara)
  • West Bengal: Bolpur, Arambag, Rajhatti, East Medinipur, ending at Haldia Port

A Big Step for Development

The Raxaul-Haldia Expressway will play a key role in improving freight transport, making it easier for goods to reach Deoghar and surrounding areas. Godda MP, Dr. Nishikant Dubey, thanked the Prime Minister for the project, highlighting its potential to create employment and support local businesses.

This expressway is set to transform connectivity across three states, boost economic growth, and make travel and trade easier than ever. 🚧✨
